As a registered club, Canterbury is a non-profit mutual body, owned and operated by its members. The club has in excess of 23,000 full members, who elect a Board of Directors from the membership every two years to run the affairs of the club.

The club provides a wide range of services for its members. Three restaurants and a hi-tech Health Club are popular amenities, and there are facilities for functions, several bars, a Sports Bar with TAB facilities, an indoor sports area, squash courts and a wide range of activities, including daytime bingo and raffles. Several clubs within the club cater for those with shared interests.

The club supports the Bulldogs Rugby League club and the West Sydney Razorbacks Basketball franchise, and also contributes to the community widely through the Community Support Development Scheme and other donations. It also funds a wide range of junior sport.

Canterbury was founded in 1957 in a small Navy hut, and has grown in the centre of Belmore to become a premier leisure facility. Its simple mission is to provide for its members a first class facility at an affordable cost.

The club movement holds a special place in the social fabric of NSW, boasting more than 2.5 million members through more than 1500 clubs. Canterbury is proud to be at the forefront of that movement.
